Armenian national team and Russian Krasnodar midfielder Eduard Spertsyan expressed hope that PSG goalkeeper Matvey Safonov will become the number one goalkeeper not only for the club, but also on the international stage. Safonov has been with the Parisians since the summer of 2024. In December 2025, the Russian goalkeeper saved four penalty kicks in the Intercontinental Cup final against Brazilian side Flamengo. Last week, Safonov saved a penalty kick from Strasbourg striker Joaquin Panicelli in a Ligue 1 match.
"Is Matvey already PSG's number one?"
"I can't say for sure, I just admire him and wish him the best. I hope he will establish himself and play regularly. And become the number one player not only in Paris, but also in the whole world," Spertsyan was quoted as saying by Match TV.
