Diego Simeone has reached a preliminary agreement with Inter

Atletico Madrid head coach Diego Simeone has reached a preliminary agreement with Inter and could take over the club at the end of the current season, El Chiringuito reports.

After Atletico's 4-2 victory over Espanyol in the 25th round of the Spanish La Liga, an agreement was reached between the Milan club and the Argentine coach. Inter are ready to offer Simeone a one-season contract.

It was previously reported that the relationship between Simeone and Atletico's sporting director Matteo Alemani deteriorated after the winter transfer window, and the club began a search for a new head coach.

Simeone has been at the helm of the Madrid club since December 2011. Under his leadership, the "mattress makers" have twice become Spanish champions and won the Europa League.
