After the scandalous final of the Africa Cup of Nations, an extremely tense atmosphere reigned in the locker room of the Moroccan national team.
The situation almost turned into a fight: some of the team's players wanted to get physical with Real Madrid midfielder Brahim Diaz, RMC Sport reports.
The conflict was caused by Diaz's unsuccessful and controversial actions on the field. In the 24th minute of the second half of the match, awarded by the referee, Diaz failed to take a decisive penalty kick without error, choosing the "panenka" style and sending the ball directly into the center of the goal (where the goalkeeper was standing). His teammates were furious at the frivolous and demonstrative approach shown at such a crucial moment.
"They were very close to starting a fight. Bystanders had to intervene and separate them," the source reported.
In addition, the Senegalese team won that match 1:0, scoring the winning goal after a Diaz miss. However, two months later, the result of the match was officially annulled.
The Senegal national team was given a technical defeat because the team temporarily left the field in protest during the match (before the penalty was taken).
