Gabriel Magalhaes has signed a long-term contract with Arsenal, the club's official website reports.
Gabi began his career at Avai in Santa Catarina, Brazil, before moving to France in January 2017, where he signed for Lille. The centre-back has had loan spells at Ligue 1 side Troyes and Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb, with whom he won a domestic double in the 2017/18 season.
He joined Arsenal from Lille in September 2020. Since then, Gabi has made 210 appearances in all competitions, becoming a key player in the defence and also scoring 20 goals for the London club.
Since scoring his debut goal against Fulham in the first round of the 2020/2021 Premier League season, Gabi has remained a serious attacking threat: since joining Arsenal, he has scored more Premier League goals than any other defender.
Gabi has become a pillar of the defence, and Arsenal have conceded the fewest goals in the Premier League in the last two seasons. His consistent form has earned him a place in the 2023/24 PFA Team of the Year. The season began with a trophy haul, the FA Community Shield, which Arsenal won at Wembley, beating Manchester City on penalties.
Gabi was first called up to the Brazil national team in November 2021. Since then, he has made 14 appearances for the Seleção and scored his first goal in October 2023, in a World Cup qualifier against Venezuela.
Recalling the signing of the new contract, Gabi said:
"I came here as a young player and almost five years later I'm very happy and I've learned a lot. I'm proud of myself. It's been an amazing journey and I'm happy to continue it. I hope to win some trophies with this club because I love it and so does my family."
Adding
"Arsenal is an incredible club and I am very proud to sign a new contract. I love this club, I love the fans, my team-mates and this stadium. Thank you all for your support. We continue this journey together."
