Premier League leaders are advising clubs to reject the expansion of the powers of the VAR system from next season, The Guardian reports.
The International Football Association Board (IFAB), which sets the laws of the game, in February allowed the VAR system to intervene in the event of corners or second yellow cards.
According to the source, the English Premier League has already held consultations with the refereeing staff on these ideas and intends to advise its clubs to vote against them, leaving VAR only for decisions on free kicks, sending-offs and offsides.
The refereeing staff is concerned that such innovations will significantly increase the time of Premier League matches, which may be negatively perceived by broadcasters, and will also put additional pressure on referees.
The final decision will be made next month when Premier League clubs hold their annual meeting.
