Benfica announces appointment of Marco Silva as coach

Benfica announced on its X social media page the appointment of Marco Silva as head coach. The 48-year-old has signed a two-year contract with the option to extend until the 2028/2029 season.

The Eagles previously announced that Real Madrid had paid 15 million euros to terminate the contract of head coach Jose Mourinho early. It was emphasized that the Portuguese coach agreed to end the partnership.

Before his appointment at Benfica, Silva had been in charge of Fulham since 2021. On June 2, the London club announced the departure of the Portuguese coach. The Cottagers finished 11th in the English Premier League last season.
