Former Real Madrid striker Raul Gonzalez has responded to criticism for supporting businessman Enrique Riquelme in the club's upcoming presidential election. The footballer did not support the candidacy of current president Florentino Perez.
"I don't need to be taught how to be a Real Madrid fan. I grew up in the old stadium, La Quinta. I've been with the club since I was nine. I don't flatter anyone. I'm Spanish. For better or worse, I'm a Madridista. I vote for Real Madrid," Raul wrote on his social media page.
The Real Madrid presidential election will take place on June 7. Two candidates will participate: current president Florentino Perez and Spanish businessman Enrique Riquelme.
Raul played for the Madrid club from 1994 to 2010. Until 2025, the footballer worked in the youth team of Los Blancos.
