World champion Emiliano Martinez has permanently lost the ability to punch with his right hand

Argentina and Chelsea goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has revealed in a video that he is unable to fully clench his right fist. The 34-year-old goalkeeper stressed that this injury will stay with him forever.

Recall that Martinez broke the ring finger of his right hand during training before the Europa League final against Freiburg (3-0), when the Argentine played for Aston Villa. Despite the injury, the goalkeeper played the entire match and made two saves.

Martinez declined surgery to avoid missing the 2026 World Cup and opted for conservative treatment, which left him in pain throughout the tournament.
