Dmitry Gunko is the head coach of Yerevan's Pyunik, the press service of the "Pomegranate" team reports.

As a footballer, Dmitry Gunko once played for the second team of Spartak Moscow, Tyumen, Spartak-Chukotka, Arsenal Tula, and Torpedo Vladimir.

After finishing his football career, he spent many years coaching in the Spartak Moscow system, leading the red-and-white youth team, which, under Gunko's leadership, became the champion of the Russian youth championship twice.

After Valery Karpin was dismissed in March 2014, Dmitry Gunko was appointed interim head coach of Spartak Moscow and worked at the helm of Russia's most titled team until the end of the season. It is worth noting that at that time, Armenian national team players Araz Ozbiliz and Yura Movsisyan played for Spartak under his leadership.

In August 2020, the Russian specialist headed the Moscow-based Khimki, but left his position shortly after.

Then Dmitry Gunko began coaching Armenian teams and achieved the most success as a coach while working in Armenia.

In November 2020, Gunko was appointed head coach of Noah and in the same season, he became the vice-champion of Armenia with the team.

The following season, he led Ararat-Armenia and in the 2021/22 Armenian Premier League season, this time with Ararat-Armenia, he became the vice-champion of the championship, losing one point to the champion Pyunik.

In June 2022, Gunko was appointed head coach of Urartu, and in the 2022/23 season, he won a "golden double" with the team, becoming the champion and cup winner of Armenia.

Based on the results of that season, he was also recognized as the best coach of the Armenian Premier League.

In June 2025, Gunko left Urartu after 3 years of service. In total, Urartu won 66, drew 22, and lost 31 of the 119 games he played under his leadership.

Dmitry Gunko's previous workplace was Arsenal Tula, which he led in June 2025. Under Gunko, the Gunners finished 13th in the previous Russian Premier League championship. In September of this year, the 50-year-old specialist left his position as head coach of Arsenal Tula.
