As part of the seventh round of the Armenian Premier League, Yerevan's Pyunik faced off against Gyumri's Shirak at home.
In the previous round, the Gyumri team defeated "Sardarapat" representing Armavir region with a score of 2:0. The goals were scored by Rafik Misakyan and Mesamba Bamba in the team led by Vardan Bichakhchyan. The "Pomegranate" team again won the game against Armavir with a score of 4:2 in the match postponed from the third round, after which the Yerevan team played a goalless draw with "Syunik" in the away match.
At the beginning of the first half, Pyunik had the initiative, but the villagers activated their game during the first 45 minutes. Both teams had chances, but failed to send the ball beyond the goal line. The teams went into the break with a 0:0 score.
In the second half, the home team showed their typical football. In the 69th minute of the match, Gevorg Tarakhchyan and his teammates were awarded a penalty kick, and Danil Kulikov, who approached the ball, struck the goal defended by Lyova Karapetyan with an unerring shot.
After gaining the status of the winner, the Yerevan club increased the pace of play, pressuring their opponent. Nine minutes before the end of the game, Iasonas Pikis doubled his team's advantage, the 26-year-old footballer from Cyprus is in fifth place on the list of top scorers with four goals.
Thus, Pyunik won 2:0 over Shirak and was in second place in the Armenian Premier League standings with 17 points, while Shirak was in sixth place with ten points.
