In the first round of the Armenian Premier League, Pyunik, led by Artak Oseyan, started their campaign with an away match against Urartu.
At the very start of the match, the “Pomegranate” team turned their advantage into a goal. In the seventh minute of the match, Iman Griffith opened the score (1:0). This was the fourth match for the 25-year-old Dutchman in the “Pyunik” jersey, three of which Griffith played in the Conference League.
After the score was opened, Pyunik did not give up their fighting actions. The 16-time champion of Armenia continued to put pressure on the Orange, where the main players were Momo Jansane and Iman Griffith.
In the first half, there was an impression that, due to Pyunik's game discipline, Urartu was unable to find its game, and in such conditions, the head coach of Armenia's most titled club, Artak Oseyan, constantly urged his players from the technical area to be more focused on the field, which was implemented and the eight-time Armenian Cup winner went into the break as the winner.
Let us remind you that “Pyunik” suffered a painful defeat to the Hungarian “Debrecen” in the aggregate match, losing 0:1 and being eliminated from the UEFA Conference League. After the match with the Hungarian club, the head coach of the Yerevan team, Artak Oseyan, spoke about “Pyunik”’s goals in the Armenian domestic championship, noting: “The team’s only goal is the championship.”
In the second half, Pyunik again stood out with active football, while Urartu failed to overcome its problems. During the second 45 minutes, the speed of the home team's player, Bariton Ayvazyan, can be considered excellent, but according to sportsworld.am, there are problems in his execution.
Artak Oseyan provided a pass to Hovhannes Harutyunyan, who was able to send the ball from midfield to the attack line with one touch.
As the match drew to a close, the urgency of the Urartu players became noticeable. It is also worth noting that Pyunik made a pass to five defenders in the game and the game they showed was eye-catching. Pyunik needed a moment to increase its advantage in the score, which Urartu did in the 69th minute of the match: Iasonas Pikis directed the ball to Gevorg Tarakhchyan, who scored, doubling his team's advantage (2:0) through the goal defended by Alexander Mishev.
With this game, Pyunik proved that they were not discouraged after the defeat against Debrecen and approached the match with Urartu in high spirits. At the end of the match, Pyunik was left with ten players. Mikhail Kovalenko was sent off the field, which Urartu took advantage of. Mikael Mirzoyan scored a double within two minutes, restoring the balance of the score.
Thus, Urartu manages to escape defeat by gaining one point.
