Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rodgers' move to Chelsea will be the most expensive transfer in the history of a British footballer, reports The Telegraph.
The London club will pay £117 million for the 23-year-old Englishman, according to the source. Of this amount, £15 million will be transferred to Middlesbrough, where Rodgers previously played. This would surpass the record transfer fee of Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest to Manchester City this summer for £116 million.
According to The Athletic, the player will sign a 6+1 contract with Chelsea. He is due to undergo a medical on Monday, July 20.
According to sources, Arsenal were also interested in Rodgers, but the midfielder decided to join Chelsea. It is said that head coach Xabi Alonso played a key role in his decision.
Rodgers moved to Aston Villa in the winter of 2024 from Middlesbrough.
